Our Board

Josh Lefkow (Co-President)

Before attending Yale Law School, Josh (he/him) served for four years as an enlisted artilleryman in the United States Marine Corps, deploying in that time to Southeast Asia and Afghanistan. Following his service, he attended community college in Los Angeles before finishing his undergraduate degree at Columbia University. His interests lie at the intersection of international law, international human rights law, and national security. 

Josh spent his 2021 summer working remotely for a human rights firm focusing on violations of international humanitarian law in the Middle East. He split his time between Arizona and New York City, and was lucky enough to catch the Grand Canyon at sunrise.

Lauren Lin (Co-President)

Lauren (she/her) is a 2L interested in international law and human rights. She taught English in Korea before coming to law school and misses her students dearly. Besides NSG, she is involved in other internationally-focused organizations like the Yale Journal of International Law and the International Refugee Assistance Project. Outside the law school, she loves baking lemon desserts, learning languages, and watching Korean dramas.

This summer, Lauren worked at two human rights organizations based in London, Minority Rights Group and JUSTICE. She managed to go to London, which was amazing!

Andrew Smith (VP Events)

Aaron Sobel (VP Events)

Aaron (he/him) is co-VP of Events and a 2L from Fairfax, Virginia. He grew up in the Philippines and Cambodia, where he developed his interests in foreign policy.  He graduated from Princeton in 2019, where he studied and conducted independent research on national security and anti-terror legal regimes. After graduation, he spent a year as a James C. Gaither Junior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s Democracy, Conflict, and Governance program writing on rule of law accountability in the national security space. At Yale, he is a research assistant for several professors, a board member for the Paul Tsai China Center and YLS Democrats, and is an editor for the Journal of International Law and Law and Policy Review. He spent his 1L summer at the DOJ’s Civil Division Appellate Staff.

Aubrey Stoddard (VP Events)

Aubrey is a 2L from Southern California who traded in sunshine and temperate weather for blizzards and politics upon her move to the East Coast. After graduating from college in 2017 with a degree in History, she worked in Washington, DC, as a federal consultant to the Department of Veterans Affairs, and she recently continued her federal government stint with a summer internship at the Department of Transportation. She is most passionate about the intersection of national security with the energy, environmental, transportation, biotech, and human rights sectors. Most of the time, you can find Aubrey fangirling over Professor Parrillo in Advanced Admin, checking out books from the New Haven Free Public Library, or sending memes about her former boss Secretary Pete Buttigieg to VP of Career Development and Alumni Relations Adam Gerard.

Andrew Brekel (VP Membership and Student Affairs)

Andrew is from Hebron, Connecticut and attended Boston College, where he was an Accounting major. Before coming to Yale Law School, he worked with PwC for three years as a forensic accountant, where he spent time in both the Boston and New York offices. At YLS, Andrew is a coordinator for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program and is involved with both the Yale Law & Policy Review and the Yale Journal of International Law. He is also a board member of the Yale Law & Business Society and participated in the Thurman Arnold Project. Outside of classes you can often find Andrew on the canal trail pickleball courts. Andrew is also an avid reader, baseball fan(atic), and Certified Public Accountant.

Andrew spent his summer in New Haven while working with the DOJ Criminal Division’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section. He took a trip to Maine at the end of the summer and would highly recommend Acadia National Park to anyone considering a visit there.

Scott Graber (VP Membership and Student Affairs)

Scott (he/him) is a J.D. Candidate in the Class of 2023 with interests in the intersection of international humanitarian law and counter-terrorism law. At Yale, he is a Features Editor for the Yale Journal of International Law. Before YLS, he taught English in France and worked in Israel for Ultimate Peace, a sports for development and peace nonprofit. Scott graduated from the Paris School of International Affairs at Sciences Po with an M.A. in International Security and from Carleton College with a B.A. in Linguistics.

Last summer, Scott worked for Impact Litigation, a Parisian strategic litigation law firm specializing in the areas of human rights, international criminal justice and the fight against terrorism. He wasn’t able to get to Paris, but worked remotely while visiting Nashville, Asheville, Washington DC, and home in New Jersey.

Sammi Stroman (VP Membership and Student Affairs)

John Bowers (VP Career Development and Alumni Relations)

John Bowers (he/him/his) is a 2L at Yale Law School. Before coming to Yale, John worked at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, where he conducted research on topics including cybersecurity, data privacy, disinformation, and artificial intelligence.

John spent his summer in Washington, D.C. working in the Office of General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission.

Adam Gerard (VP Career Development and Alumni Relations)

Adam Gerard (he/him/his) is a 2L from Los Angeles, California. He is passionate about international law, voting rights, and affordable housing. Last summer, Adam was a legal intern with the Civil Division of the US Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Virginia. Before coming to law school Adam was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company where his work focused on efforts in the public and social sector, along with higher education. Most projects involved economic development, disaster relief, or major infrastructure projects. He graduated summa cum laude from Yale with a degree in Global Affairs in 2017.

Formerly, Adam served as President of the Tree Musketeers, the world’s first youth-led non-profit environmental organization. During Adam’s tenure as President, the organization worked with youth to plant over 250,000 trees around the world and received over $1 million in donations. 

Steven Wessman (VP Career Development and Alumni Relations)

Steven Wessman (he/him) is a 2L from Pelham, New York. Prior to law school, he served as a logistics officer in the Marine Corps and completed assignments in Japan, Thailand, and Korea. He has interned in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Steven holds a B.A. in Economics from Harvard College.

Last summer, Steven interned in the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

Eleanor Runde (VP Scholarship)

From Seattle. ISO mediocre tennis and/or knitting pals. 

Last summer, Eleanor (she/her) was in New York working for Judge Liman of SDNY. Fun fact: she walked around the island of Manhattan in a day! It’s 30 miles. 

Sruthi Venkatachalam (VP Scholarship)

Sruthi (She/her/hers) is a 2L at YLS broadly interested in national security, human rights, international law, constitutional law, cyber security, and data privacy. Prior to law school, she graduated from Case Western Reserve University with BAs in Statistics and International Studies and an MA in Military Ethics while additionally spending time interning at the Department of Justice as an Honors Intern. She currently is an RA with Professor Siegel and is as a Student Staff Editor for Just Security. This past summer, she worked in the Department of Justice Public Integrity Section in Washington DC. In her spare time, you can find her baking and experimenting with new flavors and recipes.

Brandon Baum (VP Finance and Fundraising)

Brandon (he/him/his) was born and raised just outside of LA. After graduating from Stanford, he worked as an investment banker in Hong Kong for 2 1/2 years before moving to San Francisco to work as Chief of Staff at a startup and enjoy the cozy tech lifestyle. Inexplicably, he left the tech life to attend law school. Outside of NSG, Brandon is a member of the Veterans Legal Services Clinic and the Clinical Student Board, has been involved in all things antitrust, and is a Notes & Comments Editor for the Yale Journal on Regulation. Brandon is particularly interested in the intersection of economic policy and national security.

Brandon spent his summer with the California Department of Justice, Antitrust Section, while traveling in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Guadalajara.

Braden Currey (VP Communications)

Braden (he/him) is from Manhattan Beach, CA and is particularly interested in international law and law-and-development issues. Last summer, Braden externed with the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. Outside of NSG, Braden helps coordinate the Global Constitutionalism Seminar, an annual conference of Yale Law School faculty and judges sitting on supreme and constitutional courts worldwide.

Before law school, Braden was a consultant at Dalberg Advisors, a social-sector management consulting company, in New York, NY and Dakar, Senegal. There, he primarily worked on development finance and global health projects for leading multilateral organizations, foundations, and governments. Braden graduated from Yale College with a degree in Global Affairs.
